On this course you will learn many of the fundamental and commercial aspects of domestic electrical engineering.
It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IET 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
This course will show you how to apply requirements of the 17th edition to electrical installations and other electrical systems. It will develop understanding of the requirements made in 17th edition. It will cover the standard aspects of any installation that you will be expected to complete and also some of the more unusual installations you may have to undertake.
17th Edition is the UK’s national standard for low voltage electrical appliances. This is the minimum qualification required to work on a contemporary electrical system in the UK. IT is an industry standard for anyone hoping to work on site with or on electrical installations. This qualification is aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience, other allied professionals and individuals from construction, but any professional can complete this course as part of professional development in their field or as a career transition (e.g. surveyors, Start-ups, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IEE Wiring Regulations). The course covers the installation of a wide variety of electrical equipment and electrical generation equipment including a section on Micro-generation and Solar PV systems.
Who Should Attend
There are no prerequisites for this course; however, qualified electricians, tutors, consultants, multi trades, surveyors, building inspectors, Part P candidates and competent persons are suitable learners. Some practical knowledge required.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course learners will be able to:
- Calculate appropriate cable requirements
- Determine minimum required earth wire sizes
- Understand circuit division of consumer units
- Understand and comprehend ingress Protection Coding
- Understand how to issue a certificate to approve electrical installations.
Course Format
This course is a 3 day course that is run either over the duration of 3 weeks or back-to-back or in a three day set of lessons. Each day will cover aspects of the training and then cover a section of the exam that you will undertake on the final day. The exam is an online test that needs to be completed under exam circumstances in a location where you can be monitored. It is an open book exam so you will be allowed to bring in the 17th edition green book with you.
This is a Level 3 Qualification Accredited by City and Guilds (2382-12) and delivered in collaboration between CCW – Training Academy and Learning Academy UK.
